This year I would like to be on the graduation commitee because I am a commited person and I am willing to give up my lunch time to help make this years graduation a blast! I have been to two other graduations, and I would like to put forward some ideas that they had, which I thought were really good. I get along with the other year sevens and I work really good with them as well. I like my voice to be heard and even thought I may seem quiet in class, I am not when there are not many people around. I find that being on this commitee is a way that I can be heard. I know that the people who won’t be on the graduation commitee will want some one who is responsible and knows what they’redoing, which is why I think I’m a good candidate.

I just want to say good luck to everyone else! :D

This year is my last year at primary school, and every year there is a graduation held for the people that are graduating to high school the following year. This year it is my turn to graduate and I can’t wait for graduation! It’s really fun (I’ve heard from other graduates-my brother and cousin) because we get to have a disco! It’s also really fun because it gives us girls a chance to look really pretty and dress up! :) There is also a graduate commitee where year a few year sevens can help organise the graduation. I would like to be on that commitee this year because I would like a say to what happens at our graduation. To become a part of the graduation commitee we have to explain why we want to be on that commitee and some other reasons. ( Mr.Wegner said he would put a post up on the class blog explaining it all.)

I can’t wait for graduation this year and I hope it will be really fun!!

The person I have chosen is Shaun Micallef.

Shaun Patrick  Micallef was born on the 18th July in 1962.  Shaun has an Irish and Maltese descendant, he was born in Adelaide Australia and as a child he moved to Sydney and attended Pendle Hill Public School.  He is an Australian comedian, actor and writer. After he worked as a solicitor in Adelaide for ten years Shaun moved to Melbourne to pursue a full time comedy career in 1993. He first became noticed as a cast member of the T.V sketch Full Frontal which then led him to his own television show, The Micallef Program and also the sitcom Welcher & Welcher. These programs were all on Network Seven. Currently he is hosting the show Talking ’bout your Generation, which is a game show where the contestants  (famous people) get asked questions from their generation. The three “contestants” are usually from different “ages”. One from the Baby Boomers, one from Generation Y and also someone from Generation X. As this is currently what Shaun is doing, he also used to take part in the television show Thank god your here which has now moved to network seven.

As well as appearing on T.V. shows Shun co-hosts a Melbourne radio stations Vega 91.5 FM morning breakfast show. But, if you think hes done it all, think again! Shaun has also published a book! It is called Smithereens and it was released in 2004.

I hope you learnt a bit about Shaun Patrick Micallef!

As I mentioned in my blog post before, eveyone had to do a rap for our final Inquiry assessment task. I thought I would type up what my group did:

Verse 1:

Her name is Helen Davis

She wasn’t rich or famous

She married a man called Harry

They had a baby called Larry

 Chorus:

*Break it Down!*

Go Helen

Go Helen

It was your birthday in 1936!

She emigrated from England when she was fourteen

Because of population of the post war scheme.

 Verse 2:

She came to Adelaide by a ship,

Finally she was here after a very long trip.

She arrived in Adelaide where she got her degree,

Now she’s a doctor saving lives 2 and 3.

When she arrived she was very surprised

She settled into a home that was shaped like a dome.

 Chorus:

*Break it Down!*

Go Helen

Go Helen

You came here, in 1950!

 Verse 3:

She made lots of money and she thought it was funny

But then in a day, it all went away.

She applied for citizenship when she was eighteen,

That’s how she found out she was from the land of the Queen.

She had an advantage because she

 knew the language,

That we speak here in Australia

In this multicultural area.

Sooner or later she will go back,

To her homeland where she kept contact.

 Chorus:

*Break it Down!*

Go Helen

Go Helen

You’ve saved more… than a hundred lives!

WORD!

For our inquiry unit this term we had to focus on “Why is the World Coming to Adelaide?” We have been learning about Migrants and why they are choosing Adelaide as there new home and also why they are looking for a new place to live.

One of our tasks was to do an explanation on Why is the World Coming to Adelaide and we had to list reasons of why think people are migrating here.

Another of our tasks was to create a rap about someone ( a made up person) and explain reasons why they decided to come. We had to work in group of three and the group that I was with (Ministam and Alex008) made up a girl from England called Helen Davis. We performed ours yesterday. It was harder then you would think of at first because we had to search for common names in England from the 1930’s to match with our person. We also had to look at common last names, universities and hospitals that were around then, but the hardest part ( I think) was trying to find a picture of someone that looked like she was from the 1930’s.

I learnt that people from all over the world come to Adelaide for lots of different reasons, and also that people still come to start new lives now, not just back “in the 80’s”

Overall I think this Inquiry unit was one of the best because we got to learn about our heritage and also other people’s. It was really fun.

This year as year sevens my class and L.A. 21 have to make a year seven speech.  If it’s at a whole school assembly, middle primary or upper primary assembly, we have to introduce ourselves to the younger students so they know who the year sevens are and so they know who to look up to.

This Friday it is my turn. I have written my speech and now my teachers have to check it to make sure theat it is ok for me to say on Friday. I am a bit nervous because it is a whole school assembly but I think i’ll be ok.

It’s not just me who is doing the speech, it is also Nicolle and I think someone else from L.A. 21 but I am not sure.

Our Inquiry unit this term is “Why is the world coming to Adelaide?” and a question that we have to have proof of is “What proof is there that other cultures have made their home in Adelaide?” My proof is this:

Firstly, people look different to you (e.g. darker skin) because obviously no two people in this world look the same, but people can look very similar from where they come from.

Secondly, people sound different and they don’t speak the same as us, everyone speaks there own language.

Thirdly, they eat different food. Everyone has lots of different foods that are customs to their heritage. An example for me would be dying red eggs at Easter time because I have a Greek background and that’s what we do at Easter.

Fourthly, schools have language classes, which means that the teacher would’ve come from that place or known someone who is from there to teach the lesson to the students.

Lastly, they may dress differently. Once again, people have different cultures and customs and the way they dress depends on the where there from. (An example is the Indian men wear Turbans- I don’t know why, I just know they wear them!)

So, this is my proof to say that many cultures have made their home in Adelaide.

During term 2 holidays I did a lot of things. One of my favourite tings that I did was go to Whyalla for a swimming carnival. The bad part was we had to drive up and my coach was “tagging along” in my car with my mum and me!! The only conversation my mum and my coach (Michael) had was about cars!! I was sooo bored! The competition was fun even though I got disqualified three times. I would’ve one a silver medal!!! :(   I still had fun and I even tried a Powerade for the first time! :) Its supposed to be an energy drink but I just had to keep on going to the toilet!! When we got back my holidays were still going. I went to the movies with Alex008, her brother and my brother. We saw Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. On the last Thursday of the holidays I went to the SO You Think You Can Dance concert, where the top 10 from last season performed all the best dancers and some new dances as well. I’ve said that when I turn 17 I’m going to audition to go on that show and all my friends are going to be at my audition, and my friend tegie8 is going to go on Australian Idol ( she’s a really good singer) and were all going to be at her audition! My holidays were fun, boring and exciting but I still couldn’t wait to see my friends at school when we came back.

I’m the kind of person who gets interested in the type of things from the past that remain a mystery to the present day,I’m a very curious person. One of my curiosities is “Whatever happened to the Titanic?” like, who survived, are there any survivors still alive and where the ship is now.  Early in term 2, I borrowed a book from the library called ‘ An Edwardian Girls Diary, The Titanic’. It was about a girl whose parents die, and her brothers has to put her in an orphanage so that he can work as a slave and earn money. Later on in the book, the girl gets a chance to go to America ( her brother got to go as part of his slavery job) on the Titanic. The girl ends up surviving and she sees her brother again. This book got me curious, especially because I when I was looking at the real pictures (at the back of the book) I felt sorry for those people, and also It made me want to know more. Last Monday I didn’t go to school (health reasons) and so my mum took me to the video store, I had been wanting to see the Titanic for AGES!!  So finally tonight ( five days later-its a weekly rental) I got to watch it. I heard there are two versions of Titanic but I borrowed the one with Leonardo Di Caprio (because he’s my favourite actor). After seeing the movie I think I’ve become more curios and now I just want to find all the answers to my questions.

Our inquiry unit this term is “Why is this Happening?” We are focusing on the Murray River and how the  water levels have changed over the past years. In week one of this term, my class and Learning Area 21 went on camp to Hindmarsh Island to start our Inquiry. This term I have learnt lots of new and interesting things and now when I see pictures and articles in the newspaper, I’ll tell whoever is near me that that’s where we went for camp. This term was fun and now I can’t wait to see what were going to be learning about next term.
